Tag-Track is an innovative and effective solution for tracking and managing assets using the latest GPS and RFID (radio frequency identification) technology. It allows you to keep track of valuable assets, monitor their movement and allows you to locate them quickly, thereby maximising their utilisation.
How does the technology work?
Assets are fitted with a small battery powered active RFID tag which emit a periodic signal. An RFID reader/antenna is connected to the Masternaut MCU creating a zone within the vehicle allowing active tags to be read as they pass in and out of this zone. When a tag is seen by the reader, information about its identity is passed to the Masternaut tracking MCU. This information is sent back in realtime together with GPS positional information and is immediately available on the Masternaut website.
Benefits
- Visibility; accurately manage assets
- Security; reduce plant/equipment theft or loss
- Historical data relating to tag movements available to solve discrepancies
- Reduced paperwork as items are logged automatically
- Quickly locate necessary equipment for a job/task
- Proof of delivery/collection with full audit trail
- Alerting and reporting is customised to aid management of assets
- Confirm the last known location of your assets
- Allows optimisation of asset utilisation
Using the ‘find nearest tag’ feature you can quickly locate the closest available tools/equipment to where they are needed.
Tag-Track allows you to manage your assets effectively 'by exception', flagging discrepancies where management action needs to be taken. For example where equipment has been inadvertently left on a work site, an alert allows proactive measures to be taken to collect or recover the asset swiftly without delay. The same applies to assets that are moved out of working hours for added security. A range of custom reports are available allowing easy comparison of planned vs actual events.
Tag-Track is also fully compatible with Masternaut Visulive screens, enabling alerts and key information to be displayed for maximum impact.
Tag-Track is a flexible solution and offers effective management of assets for a variety of industry applications. Where assets are being moved, delivered, used and then picked up on a regular basis Tag-Track provides visibility and a record of movements to cut down on accidental loss or theft.
Here are some examples where it is invaluable:
- Highways Maintenance
- Building Maintenance
- Construction
- Hire (fitted to any assets e.g. tools or porta-loos)
- Cable (and Drum) Management
- High value commercial sports, parks and leisure equipment
- TV, Film and Events; audio/visual and lighting rigs
- Tags can also be carried by a person (e.g. automatic register of children on and off a School bus).
RFID is a wireless automatic identification technology where tags, ranging from 'smart labels' to small electronic devices, are used to uniquely identify the object they are attached to. Tags will store a unique ID number and some types offer read/write capabilities to store additional information. RFID tags can be read remotely through the radio frequency (RF) signal they send to a reader, over a range of distances varying from <1m up to 500m.
In the case of Tag-Track the readers send the received tag information via the Masternaut system where the location of assets and any unauthorised asset movements can be detected and an alert raised.
Masternaut Three X customer, Ringway Jacobs are responsible for the safe running of the road network in the central London Boroughs providing cyclical maintenance activities and full network management as well as improvement schemes.
Every year, Ringway Jacobs manage millions of pounds worth of assets and tools. To transform the efficiency of their asset management, Masternaut fitted active RFID to items of Ringway’s plant such as concrete breakers, Stihl saws and Chain saws. Tagged items are then read both on to and off the vehicles. Then using the X-ID (Reader) - the tag ID and GPS location is transmitted via the Masternaut MCU over the |GPRS network.
Once a vehicle leaves the site, any tagged items that are not loaded back on to the vehicle that were on the vehicle when it arrived on site will trigger an alert which will detail Asset ID and its location. In addition, they are able to find the nearest piece of plant to a location and see which vehicle it is on.
“A road closure on the TFL network is estimated to cost £1,000 per minute so the faster we can get a gang to site with the right tools the better the chance of minimising the road closure time.”
Mark Evans, Ringway Jacobs
