To us, our Corporate Social Responsibilities are our way of giving something back
and showing that the industry we operate in cares. We work in a sector that can
have a particularly significant impact on society and our environment and as market
leader we believe it's important that we lead the way in taking responsibility.
We also believe in helping the community around us. In caring for our employees'
future. In supporting charities. In being socially aware on a local, national and
international level. And of course, protecting the environment.
Business in the community
Masternaut is proud to be a member of Business in the community, a unique initiative
committed to improving the impact that businesses have on society. Business in the
community comprises more than 800 of the UK's most prolific companies who share
Masternaut's belief that every company has a responsibility to the wider community.
Being part of the local community
Supporting our local community is vital to us at Masternaut. That's why we strive
to recruit locally - in fact, the majority of our employee base is from the local
area. We are also committed to developing future talent, and work closely with a
number of local high schools to offer work experience placements in a range of disciplines.
In addition to this, we are currently exploring opportunities to sponsor local sports
teams.
Giving to charity
We're proud to say that in the last 12 months, we have given in excess of 50k to
charity.
Our nominated charity, Help the Aged, is also a client of ours. As an active member
of their Engage network, we've worked hard to build robust and beneficial partnerships,
and have organised numerous fundraising events from tea dances to sponsored treks
and even Christmas dinner with Gordon Ramsay! For us, it's about being innovative
and finding new ways to raise both money and awareness.
We have a creative approach to raising money for charities and believe that getting
involved, and raising awareness is just as important as the donations themselves.
Our revolutionary 'cash for quitters' scheme benefits our internal team, and is
expected to raise around £15,000 for Cancer Research UK by the end of the year.

Putting our team first
We're committed to enhancing our internal team's lives in anyway we can. Many of
the internal initiatives are focussed on this objective and that's why we've just
introduced an incentive scheme to help our employees quit smoking. Our 'cash for
quitters' initiative is completely voluntary and offers employees that smoke a £2,500
bonus if they successfully give up for a minimum period of time. Of this bonus,
half will go directly to the employee (where we pay the tax and NI), and the other
half will go to Cancer Research UK.
It's a fact that happier, healthier people work better. We ensure that our staff
have complimentary fresh fruit every day, and provide free massages for employees
once a week. And for those that take the healthy option and cycle to work, there
is a secure cycle shelter complete with lockers at each site.
Drive for Life: our safe driving competition
Drive for Life is the safe driving competition from Masternaut and gives customers
a platform to raise the profile of driver safety and duty of care issues throughout
their organisation. In 2009, Masternaut ran a national Drive for Life competition
that saw over 50,000 drivers take part. The scheme is judged impartially using data
from GreenerFleet which forms part of Masternaut's vehicle tracking solution. The
winner won a cash prize of £1250 which was matched with the same donation to BRAKE,
the UK's road safety charity. The scheme was also supported by driver safety organisation
IAM Drive & Survive. In 2010 the scheme was extended to allow customers to run their
own internal competitions.
“From the day an employee starts with us, they are part of the Masternaut
family.”
Reducing our impact on the environment
We're passionate about doing our bit for the environment. By not just thinking green,
but being green:
- We have created a 'Green Team Taskforce' to ensure we minimise our use of
energy and monitor our success.
- We have contracted a waste provider who is committed to recycling 80% of our
waste.
- We're striving for 100% on business paper as well as striving to print 100%
of all our brochures and stationery on FSC approved sustainable paper.
- We monitor all our vehicle mileage and offset our business mileage through
climate care - last year we offset an impressive 685,000 miles.
- We work closely with the Carbon Trust to make ongoing improvements to the
way we work.
- We've implemented an employee car-sharing initiative across each of our sites.
- We are proud to be the official sponsor of Green Car Guide Live - the UK's
first green commercial vehicle show.
At Masternaut, we are committed to helping our customers reduce their carbon footprint
using GreenerFleet. A unique solution, it uses our advanced technology to make your
fleet work.
